A Fitting Tribute to a great band! March 17, 2005 Mitchell Cassman (BUFFALO GROVE, IL United States) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is a follow up to their first tribute. With the difference being the artists and the songs they chose . This one does it.
Editing provided by Terry Brown and cover artwork done by Hugh Syme. They were true pioneers with exceptional talents and abilities whose unprecedented influences have inspired and spawned many musicians. The musicians on this tribute album all share one thing in their diverse musical backgrounds. Rush has touched their lives in one way or another.
The featured artists performing on this disc are: Sebastian Bach (Skid Row); Robert Berry ( "3" Ambrosia); Dave Brooks (Slammin' Gladys); Dominic Cifarelli (Pulse Ultra); Stu Hamm (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai); Daniel J. (Solo artist, Jordan Rudess); Randy Jackson (Zebra); Andreas Kisser (Sepultura); Jani Lane (Warrant); Mike Mangini (Extreme, Steve Vai); Vinnie Moore (Solo Artist, UFO); Alex Skolnick (Solo Artist, Testament, Trans Siberian Orchestra, Attention deficit); Jeff Stinco (Simple Plan); and Kip Winger (Winger).
This is just a handful of musicians they have influenced in their career who now gather on this incredible disc to pay homage to their long time heros; Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart. If you liked the originals, you are in for a real treat with this one. Great guitar parts, keyboards, and vocals, all blended with the original Rush art form. It's a great record.
Excellent tribute album! September 16, 2005 Linda, L.I., N.Y. (Long Island, NY) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Everyone was great on this album, but Randy Jackson of Zebra was incredible (as he usually is). He was particularly effective on Distant Early Warning as he really got the rhythm down in his vocals as well as the tone.
Everyone did a great job on this one.
One of many... January 3, 2007 Darin Loccarini (Telluride) There are many RUSH tributes out there, attesting to their excellence! This one is nice for a change of pace if you listen to RUSH a lot, or always (like me). My favorite is "Exit Stage Right" however, the string quartet tribute. Most people who would buy this are big RUSH fans, so it is practically obligatory to buy them all anyway!
Some Background Info For The Ignorant Masses December 19, 2005 D. Renai (DE United States) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Take a close look into who actually contributed into this CD and you'll see some interesting things...like Alex Skolnick from Tras-Siberian Orchestra! Yeah, TSO ROCKS, I just saw 'em LAST NIGHT in Philly...and the Skolmeister does it RIGHT! Stu Hamm, I mean, c'mon, the dude was with Satriani, pick up Dreaming #11 and just listen to the bass lines...sweeeeet! And for all you Winger bashers out there, you don't appreciate SQUAT as Kip Winger is one HELL of a great songwriter. Make fun of the hair band/girlie-rock/opera-dance-stepper all you want...but you simply CANT deny Kip has added MUCH to 80's rock music. ALex, Stu, and Kip, thanks fellas. This CD is EXCELLENT!!! Keep making that sweeet rock music out there!!! cause you guys and Rush are the last ones doin' it!
One more thing, Dream Theater hasn't done a decent album since Images & Words, so how about everyone stop clammoring for them to do Rush covers. sheeeesh
