Lots of fun January 12, 2010 J. Wright (Fullerton, CA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was disappointed because every song I tried to play I failed, then I read the instructions DUH. Now I am having a blast with this game. My arm does cramp up, but I stop after a few songs, and that helped. I am learning more about the game, and gaining new fans. I am able to play songs at the medium level, and go up in flames on hard and get about 10% through on expert, its crazy fast. But I'm not a kid, so maybe teens and tweens will have no trouble. I do like playing this game, and just got Decades for more songs. It doesn't deserve the low review ratings IMO.

Guitar Hero not compatible with DSi January 1, 2010 H. Zanotti (Mechanicsburg, PA United States) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Found out the hard way that this is one of the few DS games that is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH DSI. Not mentioned on this website. At least I could return it although with only a 1/3 credit. Recommend using Nintendo website to check out any compatibility concerns before making a purchase- Nintendo site will note a DS game that cannot be played on the DSi.

There is no question, Nintendo has had the edge with the success of carrying music games on the go, thanks to the Guitar Hero: On Tour games. While the first 2 were revolutionary for the Nintendo DS, but there has been so much hype for the music games for the DS, thanks to Rhythm Heaven. But, while Guitar Hero: On Tour has been dominant, there has been some new competition thanks to Rock Band Unplugged for Sony's PSP, and with the upcoming Guitar Hero: Smash Hits for the home consoles soon. Buit, with the hype going around, the Nintendo DS has been at it again with a new Guitar Hero: On Tour game, but doe this one say rock on, or is it just a wreck?
Guitar Hero: On Tour Modern Hits for the Nintendo DS, brings in the latest of the musical franchises' game to rock onto the handheld. This one though is not available for the DSi, just the original DS and the DS Lite. The game doesn't honestly bring in a bigger vibe than the 2 previous DS titles though. The graphics do look good, and the control handles well. But, the game itself doesn't seperate itself or bring in the vibe that makes the game dominant. While you do have the same features from before in the story mode like choosing to play like bass guitar, lead, or battling in the dueling guitars mode, there is a new feature that does bring in a bit more challenge in the game well, and that is the fan request challenges like scoring a high score, or accomplishing a 300 note streak. They make the game a bit more challenging for you to earn special unlockables like new guitars and clothes to customize your players. The songlist was honestly not as strong as the 2 previous games either. While there are some standouts like Coldplay's Violent Hill, and Lenny Kravitz's Where Are We Runnin', the set list isn't as solid as I thought it would stand out.
All in all, with all the gameplay, Guitar Hero: On Tour Modern Hits, isn't a strong game as I though it would be. I thought some of the game was challenging, but overall git a bit tired of it. I really am a bit more eager to see how Rock Band Unplugged plays out on the PSP though. i think it might overtake the DS game here, and show it could rock out loud better than this did. Hopefully, if there is another one for the DS soon, it can score better than this one shined.
